MORRISVILLE, N.C. \u2014 September 10, 2012 \u2014 T-Mobile USA has selected Tekelec\u2019s Diameter Signaling Router (DSR)<\/a> for the buildout of the company\u2019s high-speed LTE network, which will launch in 2013. The DSR provides T-Mobile with a central control point to efficiently route policy, charging and subscriber messages. This is essential to generate revenues from mobile data services and manage signaling growth in the New Diameter Network.<\/a><\/p>\n

Earlier this year, T-Mobile announced its aggressive $4 billion network modernization plan which includes the introduction of LTE services in 2013. One of the first steps is building a core LTE signaling network to support tens of millions of subscribers.<\/p>\n

Tekelec\u2019s DSR will help T-Mobile to:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Cost-effectively scale the LTE network.<\/strong> A centralized Diameter network eliminates the need to update all network elements when adding new equipment or when adding new roaming interconnections, thus controlling costs as the LTE network and interconnections grows.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Intelligently route Diameter messages and avoid signaling storms.<\/strong> The DSR transmits signaling messages based on real-time network conditions. For example, the system avoids sending messages to congested equipment by spreading the signaling volume across multiple network elements such as charging systems, policy servers and subscriber databases. This eliminates \u2018signaling storms\u2019 which can cause congestion and service disruptions.<\/p>\n

\u201cT-Mobile\u2019s innovation and modernization of our 4G network encompasses the entire infrastructure \u2013 from the core out to 37,000 cell sites, providing subscribers with a fast and dependable 4G experience,\u201d said Abdul Saad, senior vice president of Network Technology, T-Mobile USA. \u201cTekelec\u2019s Diameter Signaling Router provides us with the network architecture and scalability we require in order to deliver innovative mobile data services that meet the needs of our customers today and in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cT-Mobile is stepping on the LTE accelerator to launch new services next year,\u201d said Doug Suriano, CTO of Tekelec. \u201cBy implementing a new LTE Diameter Network from the start, T-Mobile will be able to scale and rapidly add LTE subscribers, devices, applications and service tiers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tekelec now has 19 Diameter Signaling Router customers<\/a>, including five Tier 1 LTE operators in North America. Industry analysis firm Infonetics Research has named Tekelec<\/a> as the \u201cfront runner\u201d of the Diameter signaling control market, and market intelligence firm Exact Ventures estimates<\/a> that Tekelec has 75 percent to 85 percent share of the market.<\/p>\n
